An Ode to Dough Donuts

Imagine this: it's finals week and you're exhausted. You haven't showered in an ungodly number of days, you're wearing the same clothes you've slept in all week, and you can't figure out why your left eye keeps twitching.

It's a rough time and you're inching closer and closer towards hitting rock bottom. You've already missed your shift at work because you couldn't wake up and now you've also slept most of the day away. It's dark out and a rapidly growing feeling of anxiety is inducing a mild panic attack about whether you're going to pass your all-important finals.

And then, your phone lights up. It's a text from your sorority sisters.

"We need dough doughnuts! Help!"

What? Doughnuts? Ah, they want you to bring them to the library where they've been stuck for the past 2345687590 hours. Do you do it? You haven't even gotten anything done yet today and Dough is WAY out of the way for you. But it's Dough, so of course you do it. That's how good it is.

This was the scenario I found myself in roughly a week ago when I was finishing up the semester and my friends sent me an SOS for Dough doughnuts. To be honest, Dough doughnuts are pretty damn delicious and is high key photogenic so of course I jump at any opportunity to get a whole bunch of them and this was no exception, even with my sleep deprivation and overall laziness. Which I understand seems a little insane, but c'mon, just look at them:

Dough is located on West 19th in between 5th and 6th Ave, an easy place to swing by whenever you're around Flatiron or Union Square. I highly recommend getting a doughnut from here because they're SERIOUSLY CRAZY DELICIOUS- think perfectly fried dough slathered in creamy sugary frosting, ugh. I'm craving it just from writing about it now.

They have a great assortment of flavors including unique ones like Lemon Ginger and Hibiscus, as well as fun ones like Toasted Coconut, Mocha Almond Crunch, Cafe Au Lait, Dulce de Leche, and Lemon Meringue. There's seasonal donuts available for limited times depending on the time of the year, past ones have included Gin & Tonic, Mojito, Chocolate Chipotle, and Eggnog Cream. I always try to sample something new every time I get a doughnut from here.

The set up is adorable and quaint with old fashioned light fixtures and natural lighting from the front windows as well as a wooden communal table for customers. The beautiful tiled floor is also great to take a shoe selfie (yes, that's a real thing) on- do it for the Insta, am I right?

So yeah, last week I dutifully marched over from Tribeca up to Dough and picked up many many delicious donuts for my sisters (#sisterhood #KappaDoesItBest). I like when someone asks for the Hibiscus donut because I'm not a fan of how it tastes but I appreciate how pretty it looks in pictures (lol) (I have no shame). We also got Toasted Coconut, Mocha, Glazed, and Nutella!

Apparently the donuts from Dough are also available at a number of coffeeshops, especially around the NYU campus (they know how much we like overpriced things), I'm not sure which ones exactly but if you ever locate one, make sure to try it! Dough is always worth it.
