DIY Valentine's Day Cards

Let's be real: Valentine's Day sucks unless you're in a relationship. If you do, congratulations- you're one of the lucky few who don't feel awkward and weird about a holiday that celebrates something you don't have. Last year I got a Build-a-Bear dressed in a cute little suit and boxes of chocolate. This year I'll be buying myself a big bottle of wine and possibly flowers, because I just really like flowers and despite Jenny's advice to get on Tinder to find a Valentine, I think I'll stick to Netflix this upcoming weekend.

That being said, I decided to try to make the most of this Valentine's Day by making cards for my friends instead of moping around and feeling sorry for my very single self.

Crafting is always a fun way to procrastinate schoolwork, and I think it's important to show your friends that they matter to you.

I decorated plain white cards, available at most crafting and stationary stores. There's plenty of cute cards already decorated and bedazzled at places like Papyrus and Hallmark, but when you make your own cards you get to customize them for each recipient in a distinct and original way.

For example, my best friend Lia is obsessed with pizza. So this card is pretty self-explanatory.

I decorated this card by simply swiping on some cute pink lipstick and kissing the paper.
Easy and only awkward if somebody catches you in the process of smooching a blank card, heh.

Cutting hearts out of tissue paper is a fuss-free and quick way to create pretty embellishments.
You can either glue or tape them to the card, both methods work well. I always save the tissue paper that stores put inside your shopping bags- it's free and never fails to come in handy for times like this!

I used a plain black Sharpie to add doodles of hearts and 'XOXO's - it's really not difficult at all to take the time to get creative and make some cards for the people you appreciate!

Also, despite my absolute lack of Valentine's Day plans, I'll be posting some V-Day outfit ideas very soon, so be on the look out for that :)
